Art Of Saying “No”

Ever said yes instead of saying no? If yes, what did you achieve?

By saying yes instantly, all we do is gratify ourselves and get some momentary ‘brownie points’. We end up committing more than we can afford and end up suffering miserably in terms more than just time and money.

Truth is, by saying yes to others we are saying no to ourselves. It’s a two-way street. If someone really needs help or you genuinely want to help someone, say yes for sure.

Learning to say - Thank you for asking but not this time - instead of a direct ‘No’ will really help you fight for your space and time without hurting someone’s feelings. However, the more personal the invitation is, the trickier the polite refusal becomes.

I personally feel that the in-flight safety demonstrations are apt for the passage where they say- “Secure your own mask first before helping others”. You have to always think of yourself first if you want to help others, too. You can make people happy only if you are happy. It is way different than being selfish. Selfishness says, ‘Always me’, smartness says, ‘First me.’

‘Those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.’
